Japan Tourist Visa for Philippine Passport Holders
Japan is the Philippines' favourite short-haul dream — and one of the easiest visas on this list to get wrong for a simple reason: the Embassy of Japan does not accept tourist applications over the counter. Philippine passport holders must file through a travel agency accredited by the embassy, which screens the file before it ever reaches a consul.

Who needs it
All Philippine passport holders visiting Japan for tourism need a visa. Former Japan residents, seafarers and certain official-passport holders follow different tracks; travellers with valid US visas do not get an exemption for Japan. If you've been to Japan before, say so — prior compliant travel is the main door to a multiple-entry visa.
Document checklist
- Passport valid for the trip, signed, with at least 2 blank pages
- Completed visa application form (embassy format — we supply and check it)
- One photo, 4.5 cm × 4.5 cm, white background, taken within the last 6 months
- PSA birth certificate issued within the last year (first-time applicants)
- PSA marriage certificate, if married (issued within the last year)
- Daily schedule of stay (taizai yoteihyo) — the itinerary form; your tour booking fills this
- Bank certificate showing sufficient funds for the trip
- Latest Income Tax Return (BIR Form 2316)
- For sponsored travel: guarantee letter and the sponsor's documents

We file at the Embassy of Japan
Accredited agencies lodge applications in batches directly with the embassy in Manila (applicants from Visayas/Mindanao are covered through the same system). You don't appear in person for a tourist application.
Embassy assessment
Usually 5–7 working days. The embassy may request additional documents through the agency; we'll contact you immediately if it does.
Passport release
We hand back your passport with the visa affixed. Check the validity window and plan the trip inside it — the visa must be used within 3 months of issue for single entries.

- Can I apply at the Embassy of Japan myself?
- Not for a tourist visa — the embassy only accepts tourist applications through its accredited agencies. That's not a premium service; it's the required route, and it's built into every Japan tour we sell.
- Is the Japan visa really free?
- The embassy currently waives the visa fee for single-entry applications by Filipinos, so what you pay is the agency's handling fee. Multiple-entry and other visa types can carry fees — we quote everything before filing.
- How do I qualify for a multiple-entry visa?
- Typically: previous trips to Japan (or strong travel history to G7 countries) used correctly, plus solid financial documents. Multiple-entry visas run up to 5 years with 15–30-day stays. We'll assess your history and file for it when the case is genuinely there.
- How early before my trip should I file?
- A month ahead is comfortable; two weeks is workable when documents are complete. Cherry-blossom season and December see the heaviest volume — file earlier for those.
