Who needs it
All Philippine passport holders visiting the UK as tourists need a Standard Visitor visa — a Schengen visa does not cover the UK, and the UK's ETA scheme applies only to visa-exempt nationalities, which the Philippines is not. Transit through a UK airport can also require a visa depending on the routing; ask us to check your itinerary.

How to apply
Complete the online application
The form is filed and paid at gov.uk. Answers must match your documents exactly — inconsistencies between the form and your bank or employment papers are the most common refusal trigger we see.
Book and attend biometrics at VFS
After payment you book a slot at VFS Global in Manila or Cebu to give fingerprints and a photo, and to submit or upload your supporting documents.
Wait for the decision
Standard processing runs about three weeks from biometrics. Paid priority (about 5 working days) and super-priority services are available when the calendar is tight.
Collect the passport and check the vignette
The visa is a sticker showing validity dates and entries. Check names and dates the day you collect — corrections are far easier before travel than at the border.
Common questions
- I have a Schengen visa. Can I enter the UK with it?
- No. The UK left the EU and was never in Schengen — it runs its own visa system. Many of our Europe travellers file both applications together; the documents overlap almost entirely, so the second file costs little extra effort.
- How much money should my bank account show?
- There is no published minimum. Caseworkers look for a balance history consistent with your income that comfortably covers your share of the trip. A sudden large deposit just before applying hurts more than a modest, steady balance.
- Is an interview required?
- Rarely. UK visitor applications are decided on papers; you attend VFS only for biometrics. That makes the written file everything — which is exactly where an experienced desk earns its keep.
- Does the UK visa cover Ireland?
